From the Desk - Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z"l

Shalom Friends!

Carly and I were so happy to see so many of you on our Zoom sessions in honour of the Shabbat Project. Carly’s challah bake was a great success with high participation, great enjoyment and, as I’ve heard from a few of you, a delicious result! It was a privilege to be joined after Havdallah by Yo Eisenstark who uplifted our spirits with his singing and music.

We are busy planning the next term of Beth Ora’s program but can already inform you that we are excited to welcome Ambassador Danny Danon to the Beth Ora Zoom room on Tuesday November 24th at 2:00 PM! Ambassador Danon was, until this year, the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations. If you have a question that you would like Ambassador Danon to address, please email me on rabbiknopf@bethora.org.

Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, Z”L

The last few days have been very difficult for me, and for many thousands of people throughout the world. For 25 years, Rabbi Jonathan Sacks was an inspiration to me through his speeches. Through his writings I learnt and absorbed key concepts which have shaped my values and my identity. I later had the enormous privilege of working in the rabbinate under his leadership and gaining from his personal counsel and care. I feel his loss deeply and the world is a darker place with his passing. I hope that each of the millions of people who were inspired by him will succeed in perpetuating his legacy in a world which now so desperately needs the wisdom and love of Rabbi Sacks. I hope that at some point I will be able to share with you further my understanding of who he was, and what I learned from this great man. Yehi zichro baruch, may his memory be a blessing.

Warm wishes,

Rabbi Anthony Knopf
