Shalom Friends!

Things are warming up (in a sense!) as we swing into a great new season at Congregation Beth Ora! Earlier this week (Tuesday), we were treated to a 30 minute session with former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon! There was a wonderful turnout as so many of us joined the Zoom Room to meet one of the greatest diplomats representing our beloved State of Israel.

There are a number of other events coming up, in addition to our regular programs. I’d like to highlight two in particular. On Sunday November 29th and Sunday December 6th, we are presenting a free Chanukah Craft Program for Kids from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. If you have a child or grandchild who you’d like to learn about the beautiful holiday of Chanukah while crafting their very own Chanukiah, please email info@bethora.org. Special credit goes to Murray Itscovitch and Jacquie Ludwick (and their team) for organizing this exciting event.

In this week’s Torah reading, our matriarch Leah names her son Judah, which means thanks. Our Sages credit Leah with being the first person to give thanks to G-d. It’s remarkable that this portion is read at the time of American Thanksgiving! More significant for us though is the need we have for gratitude in our lives and our relationships during these trying times. I’d like to introduce you to a project called Days of Gratitude which is a six-month-long journey to notice – and give gratitude for – the unnoticed blessings in our lives. It is designed to increase resilience and hope at a time when we need them most. I have registered for this and I encourage you to do so too! You can find out more at this link.

Wishing you all a warm week and hoping to be in touch soon,

Rabbi Anthony Knopf
