From the Desk - Lag B'Omer

Shalom Friends! What an incredible Shabbat we enjoyed at Beth Ora last week! We had a wonderful attendance at our delicious Shabbat dinner, complemented by an excellent presentation from guest speaker Rabbi Doron Kornbluth while the children were entertained by Batman! Shabbat day was also a great success with a lot of people in synagogue to enjoy Shabbat together and to hear Rabbi Kornbluth's presentations on the value of community and the kaballistic approach to failure! Later in the day, we had another good turn out for our Seuda Shlisheet where our speaker gave an interesting and persuasive presentation on the importance of burial, rather than cremation. The successful weekend climaxed on Sunday morning as we opened the doors to many people in Ville Saint Laurent who learned more about our community at our Open House program. We are very busy reaching out to many people in order to increase our membership and I appeal again to our members to join me in this endeavor. Please let me know about any potential new members so we can work together to grow our community. Almost 2,000 years ago, 24,000 students of the great Rabbi Akiva were killed in a plague. Lag is a combination of the letters lamed and gimel, whose numerical values are 30 and three. On the 33rd day of the Omer, the plague stopped. Lag B'Omer is a day of celebration with dancing, bonfires and much singing and joy. Next Wednesday evening, we invite you all to roast marshmallows while we enjoy beautiful tunes with Heshy in celebration of Lag B'Omer. Wishing you all a wonderful Shabbat, Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf Dovid, Rachelli, Yehuda and Avrami
