From the Desk - Kosher Questions and Chanukah Dinner

Shalom Friends! I hope you're all well and keeping warm! I just returned from a brief vacation in Mont Tremblant. It was wonderful to be in a different (and quieter!) environment. I'm now back in full force with lots of ideas and initiatives for Beth Ora over the coming months. On this coming Sunday, you will have the opportunity to quiz Rabbi Saul Emanuel, the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council, on Kashrut, MK policies, procedures, divorce and the Beth Din. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions on these topics which have troubled you or which you are curious about. The session is at Beth Ora, beginning at 7pm. We are also very excited for our Chanukah event. My Big Fat Greek Chanukah Dinner will be held here at Beth Ora on Friday night December 30th. Please join us for this special Shabbat Chanukah dinner which will include an exciting kids' program with many prizes to be won. Please book this event through the synagogue office. On Tuesday night, we had a great discussion at the third installment of our 'Raising Your Child to Be a Mensch' series. This session was devoted to the topic - Teaching your child gratitude. My own kids and I are really enjoying implementing some of the practical suggestions of how to become more like a mensch and I hope the other participants in the course are also benefiting. Join us next Tuesday for our discussion on teaching your kids to be modest and respectful. We would like to wish mazel tov to Rhona Haboucha, who's daughter, Chana Haboucha, got engaged to Aryeh Berkeley in Israel! We extend our condolences this week to Nat Bernstein on the loss of his brother, Al, and to Joel Knafo on the loss of his father, David. May Hashem bring comfort to the families and may they and we only have cause to celebrate in the future. Wishing you all Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf Dovid, Rachelli Yehuda and Avrami
