From the Desk - Post-Simchat Torah

Shalom Friends! Wow, what a wonderful Yom Tov period we just experienced. As I explained many times over this period, Simchat Torah is the climax of the entire Yom Tov period on which we celebrate our love for the Torah and, ultimately, for Hashem. The celebration in Beth Ora this holiday was palpable. From the great kids’ activities to the dancing with the Torah, the visit to Petach Tikvah and the special ladies’ Kiddush who enjoyed an excellent address from Leah Sholzberg, it really was a Yom Tov to remember. A big thank you goes to Jacki Harroch and Shimon Zrihan for organizing the Simchat Torah community dinner which enhanced our celebrations immensely. So now we are back to work and we look forward to new exciting developments in the community over the coming weeks and months. One series I want to highlight is our Raising Your Child to be a Mensch course. The course begins with a talk on November 15th from child development expert, Dr. Victoria Talwar on “Building Blocks of Character Development: Facts and Myths about Bullying”. On the other four dates (November 22nd and 29th and December 6th and 13th) I will teach sessions on such topics as teaching our kids kindness, gratitude and respect. Each session will be at Beth Ora from 7:45 -9:00 pm. The cost is $10 per session or $40 for all five weeks. If you have pre-school or elementary school kids or if you know anyone who does, please take note of these dates for what promises to be a very exciting course. For the last few weeks, I’ve been including in my emails a special section for parents with children. On the advice of some of our members, I’d like to try something different and send weekly emails directly to the children of the community. If you have elementary school children who would like to receive these emails, please send their email addresses to rabbiknopf@bethora.org. As I mentioned on Shabbat and Shemini Atzeret, we have a small team of volunteers, led by chairperson Nadine Anders, who have been doing incredible work in preparing for the bazaar. Please can I appeal again to people to spare some time to help with the bazaar setup. It is a great deal of work for a few people to do, so please give some time today (Thursday), Friday or Sunday to help get everything ready. If you are able to volunteer, please contact the office at 514-748-6559. In the meantime, we wish you a wonderful Shabbat! Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf Dovid, Rachelli, Yehuda and Avrami
