From the Desk - A Very Quick Guide to Observing Purim

Shalom Friends, I hope this email finds you well as we get ready for the holiday of Purim! Last week, we enjoyed a beautiful Shabbat at Beth Ora, as we honoured the women of the community! There was a wonderful participative atmosphere, the Alternative Choir was sensational and we enjoyed the combination of communal warmth, delicious food and engaging ideas at our Kiddush! This evening (Thursday), we host our first Beth Ora Purim event of the year with the annual Hamantaschen Bake at 6:00 PM. The fun then continues on Sunday at the Beth Ora Purim Carnival from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM. And then we reach the day itself – Purim, Monday evening on March 9th and Tuesday March 10th! Please join us for the Megillah Reading on Monday evening at 7:20 PM prompt, and on Tuesday morning at 7:40 AM. There will be a costume competition on Monday at 7:00 PM, prior to the reading of the Megillah, with prizes to be won for the best child, adult and family costumes! For 6-12 year olds, there is a special Purim activity after the evening Megillah reading and adults are invited to register for the Purim Night Out! Please see below for more information on how to celebrate Purim. Please also remember to come give blood at Beth Ora next Wednesday, March 11th. Each person donating blood will save four lives! Please spread the word and encourage your family and friends to come along for this important mitzvah, between 1:30 and 7:30 PM. Finally (for now: we have many more events coming up!), we are looking forward to our second annual Pre-Passover Roadshow! Three families are hosting a table of Beth Ora members. You choose a home to attend and Carly, Heshy and I will rotate in the course of the evening to deliver inspiring and fascinating ideas on the holiday of Passover. Please be sure to RSVP before Purim. Wishing you all Shabbat Shalom and Happy Purim, Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf
