Message from Rabbi Knopf - Lag B'Omer
Today is Lag B’Omer! Two thousand years ago, Rabbi Akiva lost 24,000 students in a terrible plague. On Lag B’Omer, they stopped dying. What was Rabbi Akiva to do after experiencing such a tragedy? He had lost 24,000 students! He took five students and he carried on. According to the Talmud, these five students were responsible for the continued transmission of Judaism through the generations.
