Special Newsletter - Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut
Shalom Friends! Today and tomorrow mark two very important dates in the Hebrew calendar. Today is Yom Hazikaron on which we honour the memory of those who gave their lives to protect the State and people of Israel. I encourage you to read this open letter to the parents of a soldier who died in a helicopter disaster at the age of 21. At the end of the article, there is reference to HonorIsraelsFallen.com, a campaign to promote learning about the brave heroes of the Israel Defense Forces and to honour their memory. I encourage you to learn about HonorIsraelsFallen.com which encourages people to do something positive in honour of those who gave their lives – to learn some Torah, do a small act of kindness or to give some tzedaka.
Tomorrow, we celebrate one of the great miracles of modern times – the establishment of the State of Israel. I recommend this excellent, short video which tells part of the story of this incredible miracle. Just as Hashem answered the prayers of our ancestors by returning us to our land, so may He answer all our heartfelt prayers for the future and bring us peace. Please join me at Beth Ora on Thursday at 10:15 AM. We have two buses going to the rally at Phillips Square. Come along and join with thousands of members of our community in showing our love for Israel and in celebration of a modern miracle. Am Yisrael Chai! Rabbi Anthony Knopf
