Thinking about the Sermon - Parshat Korach

Have you every been to a music concert or to a talk by a controversial speaker? As it finishes, the adoring fans near the front leap to their feet, applauding. The people just behind them follow their example. You are in the next row and part of you wants to remain seated and just give polite applause. But as the wave of standing people sweeps by, will you be the only one to stay seated?

Last Shabbat, we discussed how we are influenced - both for the good and the bad - by the behavior of those around us.

  • Does being part of Congregation Beth Ora help us to be better people? If so, how?

  • What would need to happen at Beth Ora for us to be more inspired to be better people?

  • Does this idea help us to understand why our holiest prayers can only be said in the presence of a minyan?
