From the Desk - Community Care and Recent Events

Shalom Friends! Tuesday night saw another very successful Beth Ora event with a great attendance at our Sisterhood program at which Irene Buenavida discussed the exile of thousands of Egyptian Jews in 1948. This followed on the heels of a great day at the Beth Ora Bazaar on Sunday. We look forward to seeing you this coming Sunday. There have even been threats that I will be forced to sell merchandise so this could be a special opportunity to see the Rabbi in an apron! Even if that doesn't excite you, you can be assured of plenty of merchandise to buy so please make your way over for this last opportunity of the year at the Beth Ora Bazaar! Other exciting events next week include the return of our Lunch N' Learn program on Monday and, on Tuesday evening, we welcome outstanding scholar, Professor Victoria Talwar who will be speaking on 'Building Blocks of Character Development: Facts and Myths about Bullying'. The cost is $10. Please do let us know if you're coming. Then, on Thursday morning at 7:30, we have the return of Shul for Dummies where we will be exploring the topic of 'Apologies Gone Right...And Wrong'. Breakfast will be served and the cost is $15. Payment must be made with reservations by calling 514-748 6559. You should have received an email about our new Community Care initiative. We are very excited to be launching this and feel it will enrich our community enormously. Please do read the email and think about the ways in which you can contribute. You may also remember that, a couple of months ago, I mentioned that we are starting a kids' choir, here at Beth Ora. I'm delighted to tell you that the group had their first meeting this week. Kol Hakavod to Rabbi Heshy Benshimon and Eric Dym for leading the group. We are delighted to welcome the newest members of Congregation Beth Ora! A big welcome on board to Steven and Donna Baranoff and their children, Jack and Quinn. We look forward to celebrating Jack's Bar Mitzvah in May 2017 and to many wonderful times with the Baranoff family. On a different note, we wish condolences to Allan Szporer on the passing of his dear father, Leon. May Hashem grant the family comfort and may they only know happy times. Wishing the whole Beth Ora family a wonderful and peaceful Shabbat. Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf Dovid, Rachelli, Yehuda and Avrami
