From the Desk - Recap
Shalom Friends! I hope you’ve had a great week! We are excited this week to wish a huge Mazel tov to George and Messody Gross on the occasion of the birth of their grandson Aviel in Jerusalem! May the family enjoy much nachas and may the new arrival bring much light into our world! Things continue in full force here at Beth Ora. Last week, writing from the breakfast table in New York, I omitted to mention the hugely successful children’s event last week with the police. A big thank you to Jack Dym for an excellent initiative. On Sunday, a very meaningful service was held for the inauguration of myself and Rabbi Heshy. We were very honored to be joined by a number of rabbis, the mayor of Saint-Laurent and a representative from Federation CJA. On behalf of our families, we thank all those who worked so hard to coordinate this event and pray that, along with the other activities and developments in Beth Ora, that it shall give us energy and vision for what we can create together in our community.
Recap This week I spoke at a service held at the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre in honor of those survivors who passed away in the last year. It was a privilege to reflect on the legacy of such a special group of people and to ensure that their legacy and life teachings are reflected in our own lives. On Tuesday evening, we had a great turn out for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to Rosh Hashana – the first of two sessions in our Shul for Dummies course on the High Holidays. At the end, I gave out this sheet. I recommend that each of you print it and give some thought to the questions. You could jot down some answers and then bring them to synagogue on Rosh Hashana. We also discussed the special foods which we eat on Rosh Hashana night, along with the blessings. This doesn’t appear in the Birnbaum Machzor so, as promised, here it is!
Don’t forget, if you or someone you know are not able to come to synagogue on Rosh Hashana and would like someone to come blow the shofar, please let me know.
Wishing all of Congregation Beth Ora Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Anthony and Carly Knopf Dovid, Rachelli, Yehuda and Avrami
