From the Desk - Fast of Tammuz
I hope this short letter finds you well and safe.
I'd also like to remind you that, even as we begin to resume in person services at Beth Ora, we continue our events on Zoom.
Recently, we have developed a relationship with some lovely people who run the Shai Agnon synagogue in Talpiot, Jerusalem. Tomorrow, they will be having a tour around the Old City of Jerusalem and have invited us to join them! There will be an English speaking guide on webcam and everyone is invited to join them on Zoom. Please click here to join the trip between 12:30 and 2:00 PM on Wednesday.
You can join us for Mincha/Maariv at 8:30 PM this evening by clicking here.
I have recently started giving 15 minutes of pre-Shabbat inspiration from 12:00 -12:15 PM on Fridays. We particularly encourage those who are not active on Zoom to join by phone. If you know someone who does not have internet or is not comfortable with Zoom and might appreciate this short class, please let them know details. The phone number is 438-809-7799. They will be asked to enter the ID number which, this week, is 854 7536 5305. The ID number changes each week and is sent out to the community by email.
We are delighted that our morning services will resume in the outdoor tent starting tomorrow morning at 7 AM. I look forward to seeing those of you who are comfortable attending our services. We are so happy that we can finally pray together and look forward to the time when we can finally return to our Sanctuary.
Wishing you all of the best,
The Fast of Tammuz
The Fast of Tammuz this Thursday, July 9th. It begins at 3:30 AM and ends at 9:21 PM.
This fast commemorates the breach of the walls of Jerusalem before the destruction of the Second Temple. It marks the beginning of the three-week mourning period leading up to Tisha B'Av.
The day also commemorates the destruction of the two tablets of the Ten Commandments and other historical calamities that befell the Jewish people on the same date.
