by Canter Arie L. Subar
From
the cradle and onward, music accompanies the Jew. The occasions where
one will hear music are plentiful. Brisses, Bar/Bat Mitzvah,
Weddings, etc. Chants and dirges are ritual at funerals as well. Who
can forget the Shabbat and Holiday prayers where our music dominates
the services? And, when we are seated around our fine Shabbat and
Holiday tables, we turn to song.
It seems that our sages understood the deep and profound meaning of Jewish music and its influence on the Jewish soul. The role of music in our tradition is to elevate us to the joy or seriousness that our rituals dictate.
Today more than ever music is hear everywhere. Music blares from our entertainment systems at home as well as in our car stereos, malls, etc. Music is used to heal, in therapy and many use it to reduce their personal stress and anxiety.
It is with pride that our congregation, Beth Ora, brings you, the congregant, the authentic Jewish music of our people. For so many years the Beth Ora choir served only on High Holy Days. Since last year the choir started to enhance our service on Shabbat Mevarchim when we bless the new moon and on other special occasions.
Please feel free to come a no join us at our Shabbat morning services and for the High Holiday Services. I am sure that you will be spiritually uplifted and will enjoy the beautiful music of our tradition and of Beth Ora.
